- Adequate supervision and clear communication by parents about the negative effects of alcohol and about parental expectations regarding alcohol and other drug use can significantly decrease alcohol use in teens.
- Moderate use of alcohol has been defined as 1-2 drinks per day; interest in "moderate" drinking is underscored by the research showing beneficial effects of moderate drinking on cardiovascular function, and perhaps on the prevention of occlusive (clot-related) strokes.
