- According to recent alcohol statistics, approximately 9.7 million current drinkers in the United States are between the ages of 12-20. Regarding these young drinkers, 18.7% are binge drinkers and 6% are excessive drinkers.
- Not every child of an alcoholic will develop alcoholism; some children of alcoholics make the conscious choice not to drink at all; conversely, many people with no family history of alcoholism may become alcoholics.
- 21% of drivers ages 15 to 20 who died in motor vehicle crashes in 1998 had blood alcohol concentrations of at least 0.10%.
